It is difficult to explain how I found The Spectrum Academy in a few words.
In searching for an understanding and prepared setting for my daughter with
special needs, I have been on an adventure for many years.
I became interested in occupational therapy because it is a resource that
helped my daughter a great deal. While on an educational adventure to learn more
about occupational therapy, I was privileged to participate on the ULEND
Project at the University of Utah. ULEND stands for Utah Leadership Education
for Neurological Disabilities. It brings together a wide range of medical and
community professionals to provide a family friendly pool of resources for those
in need. The goal is to provide a "medical home" where all agencies and
resources work together to provide the best standard of care possible. The
ULEND Project introduced many qualified professionals that understood my "quest"
in bringing an understanding or at least, concern for medical conditions to an
appropriate educational setting. An additional experience that has prepared me
for The Spectrum Academy has been Learning Technics. While employed by
Learning Technics I have seen what was considered impossible become very
possible through physio-neuro exercises provided.
I applied for a teaching position at Spectrum Academy because it is the
setting that meets my "educational quest". I was pleased just for the
opportunity to interview and breathless at the offer to teach at Spectrum
Academy. I picture eager faces on students who hope for an understanding
teacher and I feel the emotion of parents who have searched, as I have, for just
the right educational setting for their child. With this in mind I am humbled
and excited to be part of the team at Spectrum Academy.
The year 2013 - 2014 marks my eighth year at Spectrum. I have been there from
the first year it opened. I have watched the growth of the programs and the success
of many students who just needed the chance to be who they are and build on their
amazing talents. It has been a dream come true. Thank you all for this wonderful opportunity.
